$989 Room + private bathroom in a luxury townhouse. Amazing rooftop deck, one block to UMD shuttle.

Steps from the bus, 10 minutes to campus by bike on the beautiful trolley trail (1.7 miles).

I have a large, very private bedroom available with a walk-in closet on your own floor in a new construction four level, four bedroom townhouse on a...
tree-lined street in the Hyattsville Arts District. This model also has the biggest rooftop deck (with a great view) in the neighborhood.

Plenty of garage space available and street parking (I ride a motorcycle and it's a two-car garage, so there's tons of space).

The house:

Your private bedroom (and bathroom) are upstairs, with windows on two sides for a ton of natural light (also the warmest bedroom in the house in the winter). A previous roomy was a graduate student who has been writing her dissertation and working on research; the room is large enough to fit a queen-sized bed, bookshelf, and desk for a work-from-home or study-from-home setup. The other rooms on this floor are my bedroom and my office.

Below your room is the shared space (living room, half bath, and gourmet kitchen with every kitchen gadget known to man) which I'm planning to turn into a library eventually. There's a large sofa set and a ton of seating if you have guests over, as well as a giant TV with all the streaming channels.

Above your room is a ~900 sq. ft. rooftop deck with an outdoor sofa / table set and two day beds to hang out on when the weather's nice (I also work from there sometimes).

Laundry (free) is on the ground floor, next to the main entrance.

Neighborhood and location:

It's a 10 minute bike ride on the trail to the UMD College Park campus, a 35 minute walk, or a 5 minute drive. There's also a UMD shuttle and a neighborhood shuttle service to the metro. Ubers are usually 2-5 minutes away, though sometimes can be 8-10 minutes.

The neighborhood was designed as an arts community. Live music, spoken word poetry events, book readings, and everything from gourmet local coffee to secondhand bookstores to local woodworkers and ceramics are within easy walking distance. There are restaurants and cafes everywhere; you won't get bored. The neighbors are very friendly; lots of grad students and professors since UMD is so close. Probably the dog walkingest neighborhood I've lived in.

87 Walk Score. There are miles of beautiful (no motorized traffic) walking and biking trails a block from the house.

I eat out a lot; there are a ton of places I'd recommend trying within a few blocks of the house: Busboys and Poets, Yes! Organic Market, Chipotle, Tara Thai, Elevation Burger, Spice 6 Modern Indian, Franklin's Restaurant and Brewery, Chez Dior Senegalese Restaurant, and Shagga Ethiopian Restaurant, 2fifty Texas BBQ (this was rated one of the best BBQ options in DC recently), District Taco, Chipotle, and the Riverdale Farmer's Market. Walking distance to the Riverdale Whole Foods Market and the surrounding shops and bars.

MARC: 8 minute walk up the trail, 10 minute ride to Union Station. Extremely convenient to get to Baltimore as well.

About me:

I'm male, 43, work in tech, visited three countries this year (so far), and will likely be working from home for the foreseeable future. Hobbies include cooking, reading, and motorcycles. Fellow Bengali speakers welcome, since I'm fluent but getting rusty. Huge bonus points if you can teach me Spanish.

You could be any race, skin color, ethnic origins, LGBTQ; I've lived with all of the above over the years. Bonus points for people with interesting stories or interesting travel.

Extra bonus points if you have a puppy I can take pictures of.

Write a good introduction for yourself. If you read this far, add a note on your favorite book or author.

Security deposit, credit check, and your first month's rent due at signing. Since I've been asked about this a couple of times already: AirBNBs aren't allowed anywhere in the Arts District, so you will *not* be able to AirBNB this room.

If you would prefer the room furnished, there may be an option to buy my current housemate's bed, and I have an extra desk, dresser, and barely-used twin mattress.
