Creek and garden view walkout basement House

We are renting a sunny suite of rooms, approximately 500 square feet, in the walk-out basement of our home. The entrance is on the patio, which you can use, and overlooks the hiker/biker trail and the creek that flows past our yard, making it quiet... and full of nature. Deer, rabbits, foxes, possums, raccoons, owls and pileated woodpeckers frequent our yard of native plants. This park is on the migratory-bird route, and the trees are full of warblers and exotic visitors in the spring and fall. The basement is accessed by a set of wide, shallow brick steps, without a railing, along one side of the house.

Your unit has its own entrance and separate, private living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom All rooms are furnished, the bed is queen-sized, and cooking utensils, pillows, blankets, curtains and TV are provided. We can provide a set of sheets and bath towels for an additional fee. Utilities, including high speed internet via WiFi are included, but not phone service or cable TV.

Giant, Capital One Bank, Bank of America, Salvadoran and Ethiopian restaurants, bakery and shops, laundromats, library and community center with pool are within 10-15 minute walks. The UMD bus stop is a 7-minute walk to Flower Ave. Metro Bus #12 and #13 will take you to Silver Spring or Takoma Park Metro Station in 15 minutes. Takoma Park Metro to Downtown DC takes 20 minutes. During rush hour, it takes 50 minutes to 1 hour from our house to DC, by bus and train. Buses run less frequently during the day or after 7pm, so it may take an hour and a half. The Purple Line wraps around our neighborhood, providing two stops starting in 2027: Arliss and Piney Branch.

We have a friendly cat, who we keep out of the basement, but if you like furry visitors, she is amenable. She does not charge a fee for this service.

If you are visiting us for the first time or returning home for the last time, we will pick you up at the Takoma Park metro station. We can also provide transportation to and from the airport upon request, but an additional fee will be charged.

The entire property is non-smoking of any and all substances.

We require that you acquire Renter's Insurance to cover your own belongings, as these will not be covered by our insurance. The cost for this will be nominal, and you will appreciate it if your laptop gets wet. If you need help finding or applying for insurance, please let us know. We will be happy to help you.
