Furnished Room
This is an ad for a furnished room in a home near Kensington/Wheaton MD. There's a video of the room but I am unable to post it here in the description, so check for umd's designated box for such urls called "Promotional Video Link" and if you still... can't see it please let us know. We are further away than most places but we have some nice perks: cleaner than most group houses with for instance all dishes being sterilized, very friendly house atmosphere, more luxurious, voting rights so you control who lives with you, game nights, super flexible (month to month) lease, and no chores.
The private room is furnished as shown in the pictures. The nearest bathroom would be shared by a young female student. We also have two rooms with private bathrooms if you want another option. Just ask during your tour. And if you want a luxurious upgrade (3x bigger) with a balcony and private bathroom it is also available for a little more. We are flexible with the move date and because we have a guest room one could move in any time that works.
Location: UMCP is about a 20-minute drive. We are about 12-minute walk from the Wheaton stop on the red line of the DC Metro[1], just north of the DC Beltway (I-495). A Safeway grocery store is right at the metro, and we're within walking distance to the biggest shopping complex on the metro (including Target, Costco, Giant Food, Macys, 80 nearby restaurants, and 16 bars). Our neighborhood is in a nice area in DC.
Rent: $800 per month. It's basically a month-to-month lease, but some housemates have been here for years, so it's a mix of old friends and new faces. It's very easy to leave. This is one of many things done to help ensure that everyone here is enjoying it.
Room: There is a a keyed lock for extra security, queen bed, desk, dresser, chairs, and a closet with an iron and ironing board. There's a door to the private bathroom. Padded carpeting means no specs of dust on the bottom of your feet and good noise absorption/isolation. There's wireless, but there's also a wired connection because wireless isn't as secure and can't make full use of our fiber optic connection. There's central ac and heat. Everything not new in the room will be washed, including the pillows, and the mattress will be fully aired out.
House details: The large house has a working fireplace, weight room, & rec room. The kitchen has most of the gadgets you blissfully but mistakenly thought you'd use. There's a deck, outdoor grill, hammock, greenhouse, and flower garden.
It’s normal to pay utilities several times a month as they come in. It’s a hassle, and hard to budget. Usually there’s tension between the thrifty and those who can afford optimal comfort, and also between the neat freaks and the laid back (likely to forget cleaning/chores). Here, we pick "happy" over savings, so there’s a relatively high, fixed misc. fee covering utilities, chores, cleaning of common areas, dishes being put back and sterilized, and too many other things to list here. A benefit is that the kitchen is always usable.
In the room is a 50" TV. The system gets over 50 local channels, Netflix, HULU, HBO, and Amazon Prime. Any movie on VUDU we don't get is free otherwise is free if there are two or more people interested in watching.
House atmosphere: We're sort of like the Friends TV show. ~50-50 co-ed. On average, we have a game night once a month.
Voting rights: Housemates are able to vote about various issues including who can next move in. To be honest, it is difficult to get unanimously voted into the house, but, on the bright side, if you do get in from then on you could then veto any incoming candidate you had misgivings about. This voting process takes less than 24 hours, but requires paying 1/4 of the security deposit. It's refunded if you are rejected, but if we say yes and you decide to live elsewhere, it isn't refunded, so only pay after verifying that this place probably works for you in terms of location, price, etc.
Contact: If interested, email or dial 24O-483-7l24. All inquiries will still be answered or responded to within 2 hours of daylight, so if there is no response, try again, as we definitely did not get your message or you didn't get our response. This is true even if it isn't a good match.
